HI

Windows xp tried to do an update. Now whenever I turn the computer off it automatically tries to install an update. I get a message that says Installing update 1 of 1. Do not turn off or unplug your computer. it will turn off automatically.

It does this everytime I turn the computer off. Last night it was on for over 10 hours displaying this message. Does anyone know whats goin on?

thanks

Go to COntrol Panel, and Security Center, and turn off or change Automatic Updates to suit your desires.

HI Again

Im aware of that. Why would it take so long to install a program. The computer was on for at least 10 hours. Surely, long enuff to install service pack 2. I still want the computer to do auto updates. There must be a problem with service pack 2. Ive never seen this problem before.

You may have some piece of software that is messing with the MS update process. Make sure you don't have anything running in your tray or any "hidden" apps running. Kill them via the Task/Process List if necessary...

Hope this helps!
