Problems with smoothwall......

I am having problems getting my cable modem to work with smoothwall. I played with it for like 2 hours and couldn't figure out why it would not work:|

This is beta2.

I currecntly have @home cable

The machine that runs it is a P90 with 64megs of ram

The first nic(green)(eth0) is an old 3com etherlink III card
IP addy set to 192.168.1.1
Net mask set to 255.255.255.0

The second nic(red)(eth1) is a dlink/realtech

I have the dhcp box checked for this nic, dhcp hostname set to smoothwall.

I am able to access it in the browser.

Am I missing something?

What is happening? Are you getting any errors? Is it recieving an ip address? Is the correct module loading?

DHCP should be set to Green not RED.

IP address of you RED should be handled by the DHCP of your ISP.

Wouldnt dhcpd be set on green and dhcp set on red? Red is the isp side and if he is using cable chances are he gets a dhcp lease for the ip.

yes, red should be set to Dynamic and green to handle DHCP server, thanks for the clarification.

mb i read his original post wrong, but it sounded to me like he set the red to be dhcp server.

For red, I can set it as static, dhcp, or PPPOE, and yes, my isp gives me a dynamic IP(dhcp).


When I had the remote admin web interface up, I noticed my cable modem had an IP that started with 10.x.x.x, usally it is like 12.218.16.x, it always starts with 12.218, never 10, when it starts with 10, it does not work...



My cable modem is a com21 doxport if it makes a diff....I know it can't be that difficult....

Do you have any routers or other DHCP servers in front of the smoothwall? A 10.x.x.x is a private address and is common in custom configs of these home NAT boxes. I use it for one segment of my home network...

no I do not, it comes from the cable(isp) to modem, to smoothwall....do you think that maybe they don't allow linux OSes? I have heard that *some* isp's do not..
