Hey guys,

I have a slight problem. for some reason, all the shortcuts on my computer are not working. This includes start menu, and the desktop too. The progs open up if you actually open the prog, but the shortcuts will not work. I have no idea whats going on, could be a virus, but havent been able to get updated virus definitions.

Anyone have any ideas about it?

I have no idea what the problem is. My suggestion is update your virus defs (which should be done always, there is little point in running AV software with old defs.) and scan you system.

I have the same problem, none of my shortcuts work suddenly, I have not been able to find any record of a virus with this characteristic and also have found no support for it.

I downloaded a file from kellys-korner-xp.com name mypicsdefault.reg. This file removed
two keys from the registry and broke all my shortcuts on the desktop and in the quicklaunch
area.

So I modified the file by removing the minus sign so it adds the two keys instead
of deleting them. This fixed the problem.

Save this in notepad as something.reg with the [--cut--] of course

[------cut-----------]

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\SystemFileAssociations\image\ShellEx\ContextMenuHandlers\ShellImagePreview]

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{00021401-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}\shellex\MayChangeDefaultMenu]

[-------------cut------------]

I am not sure if it will work for you but it worked for me. Whenever editing the registry, please do so with caution. Hope it helps, good luck.
