Ok, I am building 3 computers for someone right now and I need a little help. All of them consist of 1 gig Mushkin RAM, ASUS K8V SE Deluxe MB, and a Raptor 36Gig WD HD. Here?s the thing, I can install and run WinME just fine. However, when I try to install Win2K or XP I get blue screened. ?Stop 0x0000007B inaccessible_boot_device.? I have tried installing from a boot disk and upgrading from Win ME and nothing seems to work. I have flashed the Bios to1003 (the latest update) and install SATA drivers from ASUS when 2000 and XP prompt me in setup (F6). I have tried changing my boot sequences to different configurations too. Nada! It might help to mention that the ASUS has a Promise SATA controller. I am getting desperate. Any suggestions would be great.

Check in bios where you set boot order. Somewhere iin that section is one for selecting the sata. Look around if via there will be a via listing scsi for the promise

AHHHHH SATA DRIVES RUN AWAYYYYY!!!!!! :Q

;) ~ are we helpful around here, or what

nic2deep, for starters, I recommend that you use the native VIA SATA controller, not the Promise one. The native one isn't PCI-bound, so it can have a higher burst speed and also doesn't clog up your PCI bus. So try that. Use the Makedisk.exe found in the VIA folder on the Asus CD to make the necessary driver floppies for the VIA controller.

In the BIOS's Advanced section, ensure that the OnChip SATA BOOTROM is enabled and set to Onboard IDE Operate Mode. This is the VIA SATA controller it's looking at.

Now go to the Boot menu (as I'm sure you've already done plenty of times) and set it to boot from SATA and pick the drive itself by name, and see if that gets it going when you try to install Win2000 or XP. Use the VIA SATA driver floppy you made with Makedisk.exe.

Thanks for the help. Here?s the answer. I called ASUS because I was about 1min away from ripping all my hair out. As I said before I had a Promise controller for RAID (Onboard) but what I didn?t know is that there is a separate regular SATA Via controller (On board) too! ASUS told me to install the Via drivers during setup and it works perfect.
