Problems with Print Spooler

Argh.
After fixing my other problems I've discovered that the Print Spooler won't work.
XP recognizes the printer, the drivers have all been reinstalled, everything *looks* good, but when I go to print a pop tells me that Spooler Subsystem App must close and an error report pops up.
I can restart the spooler under Services, but I can't get it to print.

I was thinking about running SFC(system file checker) in the hope that it would replace the print.exe in the DLL Cache folder, but I'm not even certain if that is the problem.

Anybody got any suggestions?
