Problems with powering pc

Hi I just builted a budget system for my friend which is the following

A64 3200+ (S754)
MSI K8N Platinum
1.5 Gb of pc3200 Kingston
6800GT
Tagan 480W PSU etc..

My problem is the following. PC boots normally plays and does everyhting w/o issues it can restart but if I shutdown the system it can't restart again. I have to reset the bios via jumper in order to start again. This happens every single time.

I tried switching ram in slots moved mobo and cpu and put them back again and generally checked almost everything.

So any ideas what can be causing this? Could it be a corrupted bios? But if it was shouldn't I have a problem ALL the time and not when I shutdown the pc?

Plz help. Thanks in advance

I thought of this too and I'll change it to see what will happen. But can battery create such an issue? I mean why whne resetting everything is ok and when I shutdown and try to power it again it does not respond? Beats me...

Hi, Does it lose Time and Date too? Not likely but I found an almost new MotherBoard with a bad CMOS Battery. They are usually good for 5 or 8 years, but this one was defective and completely dead. Hope this helps, Jim

Are you sure you used the correct battery for that particular motherboard or did you just happen to have one on hand ?

No man it's not the battery. Before it was the original which worked fine for 2 years and I bought a new one just to check it out. Both of them do the same.

It must be something else. Any ideas?

You sure the bios jumper is in the right place? I had exactly this problem once when I accidentaly left the jumper in the 'clear' position, thinking it was normal position.

Yes of course 🙂 I said it before I reset the bios it starts normally and then when I close it cannot boot again.

You could have the power switch plug in the wrong place.

Now that you mention it I have to check the small plugs once again. The power button in front of his old case doesn't work so it could be in the wrong place.

I had an aopen board do the exact same thing to me.I would start it up would work fine shut it down hit the power button the fans would come on no post till i cleared the cmos after that a ok till next startup i swapped out everything piece by piece with known good parts ,battery, video card ,memory, ran system out of case, power supply, after going rounds with aopen i rma the board for another exact same thing again same thing so i rma again for a asus board everything ran perfectly fine,I was running a 64bit semperon in that system aopen said the board supported it but it always came up as unknown processor in the bios splash screen needless to say i see aopen emailed me back two weeks later notifying me of a bios update.
