Problems with pencil trick

Trying to overclock my brand new KT7 raid & TBird 900
Connected L1 bridges with a thick layer using n.2 pencil.

When I try 9,5 x 100 --> Works !!
10 x 100 --> Fail ! (shows 9 x 100)
10,5 x 100 --> Fail ! (shows 9,5 x 100)
11 x 100 --> Fail ! (shows 9 x 100)

And so on, you get the picture .
What am I doing wrong
Should I use another pencil,
and also, should I erase the existing traces of pencil when I try
again or not, and if so: how ?

just keep trying. apparently, using the eraser works fine. i personally used the tutorial posted by Vpham97 covering the loctite defogger kit method.

The problem with the pencil trick is that it sucks............ Use the defogger kit. The pencil trick weres out after a month or two.

The pencil trick works fine, but I wouldn't use it for extended periods, here's another vote for the defogger kit (if you feel up to it).

I come from Belgium and I never heard of such 'kit'
Is the pencil trick REALLY no good for extended periods ?
Maybe my next option is a conductive pen ?

(also really hard to find where I live --> in the middle of nowhere !)

Renob: The graphite in pencil "lead" is Dust that is not bound to the CPU bridges in any way. Unlike PAPER which absorbs the graphite. Also .. Graphite was never intended to carry current. The "Dust" degrades with heat and current effectively breaking down over time. The Loctite paint is permanant. So is the paint in a conductive pen. Both of these ARE designed to carry current.

a conductive pen is another good idea if you don't want to get the defogger kit. all pep boys auto parts stores carry this kit. it's called the "rear window defogger repair kit" and is made by loctite (pronounced lock tight). i don't think kragen carries them any more, but just call around to your local auto parts stores to see. it should be around $8. good luck.

like others have said, the graphite in the pencil is not meant for carrying a current, so it degrades with heat, and the graphite also blows off the chip, so it isn't all that permanent of a solution.

You can also solder the bridges, that's what I did and it works fine.

Soldering may work, but the other solutions may be better. Soldering produces heat and also the solder may not stick as nice as you'd like it to.
