Problems with Newly built computer

First off, here are my system specs:

AMD 64 Bit 3000+ Processor
GeForce 4 Ti4600
MSI K8N Neo Platinum motherboard
1 Gb PC3200 400 MHZ Crucial Mem.
60 Gig 2mb Cache WD HD
Antec Sonata Mid Tower Case w/380w PS
Windows XP home edition

I just set this system up yesterday. The problem I'm having is that the USB ports are not working. Everything else is working fine except these, but when I try to plug in my USB mouse into the usb port, it will not recognize it. Same thing happens when I try other usb hardware.

Any help on this would be appreciated!

That's bogus, try downloading the usb 2.0 update from Microsoft and see if that works and install the nforce drivers.
 
Welcome to the Forums 🙂 Is it the case's front USB ports that aren't working, or the motherboard's own built-in rear ports, or the ones that are mounted on a PCI slotplate?
 
It's all of them. None are working. I've tried several different jumper settings to no avail. I'll try to download the USB 2.0 update and see if that works.
 
Motherboard come with USB drivers? Take a look at Device Manager and see if its picking them up or not.
 
Does the USB show any signs of life? Mouse lights up at all?

Take a quick look at your case's rear jack panel and confirm that the springy finger things on the I/O shield aren't getting into the USB ports. Next, unplug the case's front-USB cable and the motherboard's USB bracket, and try with only the motherboard's built-in USB ports on its rear panel.

If that doesn't work, then my next suggestion is to go into the motherboard's BIOS and confirm that the USB controllers are, in fact, enabled (see pages 3-13 and 3-14 of your manual, it's in the Integrated Peripherals > Onboard Device menu in the BIOS). Note that there's also a USB Mouse item in there that you'll want to enable.

If that doesn't work, then peel the board out of your case and benchtest it as shown here, sitting on cardboard beside the case. If it doesn't work after that, my best guess is your board is faulty. The USB devices do work on other systems, right?
