Problems with NAT errors in P2P applications

Hey guys,

I've been posed an assignment which I must answer, and any help you guys have on this topic is greatly appreciated. Also, any other sites you can direct me to would be very helpful.

The question I have exactly is, what problems do P2P applications (not necessarily bittorrent) face in the realm of NAT-- and what can be done to overcome these problems?

Thanks in advance!

You might need to use port forwarding to open up those ports to the P2P application you are using. I used to have to use port forwarding when I used Azureus for bittorrent but after switching to uTorrent I haven't had to do that.
