Last week my system(win xp pro) was pausing alot and the hard drive light would stay on for a few minutes and then an error message would come up that says, what looked like a system file, "... could not be saved" (cant remember exactly). After that I decided to reboot into safemode. After trying to reboot normally it would get halfway into the boot and just reboot. Safemode will get most of the way and then just stop and reboot. Not sure if this is related but I gave up and just let it sit not powered on and while I was on my other pc it turned on and tried to boot on its own.

I tried to run the install disk and while I was trying to get into recovery console the hard drive light stayed lit and it never made it all the way into the console. It paused with a message at the bottom of the screen where it was preparing to start the RC. Any suggestions would help. Thanks

Sounds like the HD is on the way out. Run maxtor diagnostic and see what it says.

Check to make sure the cables are seated, sometimes they work loose.

Thanks for the tip. Ran the diag tools and it said to call WD support asap. Did so and found out that I am out of warranty by a month. Guess I'm going to get a new brand ;)
