Ok, same problem again. I try to play DOOM III or NFS2 and I get the CRAZY LINES all over the screen again as soon as the game starts loading. The whole picture is smeared. The cars look like they're missing the trunk, roof and im driving on water....etc Another words, everything is messed up and there are lines through out the whole screen. I posted about this problem awhile ago and the responses talked about the FAN getting stuck or not spinning. I already checked, SPINS FINE. This was a NEW card to begin with. I also just downloaded the latest driver from ati.com and it still has problems....PLEASE HELP!!!!

Do you have the latest version of DX?

If so, then it might well be a bum card. RMA the sucker.

DX = directX. RMA = to send it back to the manufacturer and they'll send you a new unit. The first thing I would do would be to go to http://www.ati.com and dled the most recent software, drivers, and firmware fore the radeon 9700. after all that is done, then most likely, your problem will go way.

Sounds like your card is broken. Even if you RMA with ATI, you won't get a 9700 Pro back, they were discontinued and are all gone.

So then what? What will they give me if they even give me anything?

Probably a 9800 Pro, or if they run out of that maybe an x700 or something. No way to really tell.

Before you install the new Cat drivers, make sure you uninstall the old drivers first. I agree that it sounds like your card is on it's last legs, but if you've been installing drivers over one another, this too could cause the problems your experiencing.

You can uninstall the old drivers different ways. I don't necessarily trust Windows when it comes to completely uninstalling programs but I would go to the Add/Remove first and uninstall it, then I'd get a driver remover like the Cat uninstaller from ATI here: http://www2.ati.com/drivers/cat-uninstaller.exe
After you use Windows to uninstall it then use the ATI uninstaller, then reboot and install the new drivers. If you still have this problem then at least you know that it's not because of old driver corruption.

I just talked to ATI Tech Support and they said that I need to conact my computer company so I could uninstall/disable my previous integrated video card that came with the computer. Anyone have a clue on how to do that instead of calling them, b/c I am out of warranty anyways.

OMG.... you didn't do any research at all ...?

Just plopped the card in and hope it works ...?

1. What MB are you using ?
2. Do you know what BIOS is ?

I don't know if you can disable your integrated VC.
Please provide answers to above questions.

dude...hes new at all this stuff, what research will he do when he doesnt know anything??
well if u have integrated graphics u have to go to the bios setting when u restart ur computer. im not sure what button it is as different computer have different buttons...try pressing f1 or f2 it should be them. once u go there gotto peripherals and disable ur integrated video....
but i doubt this is the problem...ur card must be malfunctioning!! i think u may have to get a new card...search on ebay for a used 9700pro or 9800pro..should get them for under $100.

Either your card is malfunctioning, or there is a conflict somewhere in the hardware/software (the latter is usually the case, but not always). If you can give us the make and model of your computer, with as many details as possible, it will be easier to recommend a course of action.

Basically, the ATI tech was suggesting your motherboard (MB) may have a built-in graphics card (integrated video) that is conflicting with your add-on graphics card. Easy way for you to rule that out is to check the back of the computer to see if there's another VGA connector your monitor could plug into. If there isn't one, then that's not your problem. If there is, you will have to enter the BIOS screens as ddogg mentioned and check to make sure it is disabled (usually pressing f1, f2, or delete during a critical time at early boot-up is how you get in - the actual instructions often flash by on your screen very quickly during this time). The BIOS screens can look a little confusing, so it's hard to advise on where to look exactly.

The other obvious possibilites are software conflicts, hence the recommendations by members here to install the latest version of Microsoft's DirectX (available from microsoft's website or windows update) and ATI's latest driver (you should get the display driver and control panel download, but not the one with Catalyst Control Centre since it involves you also getting microsoft's NET framework, which is one more headache than you need right now). You also need to get the latest AGP chipset drivers. This is a little trickier, because you need to find out who made the chipset for your motherboard. It could be either Via, Nvidia, Intel, Sis, etc. An older version of this driver often comes on the CD with your computer/motherboard, so that should help you track it down if you have one. Otherwise, you will have to look under your windows control panel system icon for more info (we also need to know which version of windows you are running, etc.).

Hope that helps get you started!

Yeah, do what selfbuilt suggested. If you do have an integrated gfx chip then it should be easy to disable it.

If you can tell us what kind of mobo (motherboard) you have let us know. You can download a program called Sisoft Sandra 2005. It will tell you what kind of mobo you have along with everything else. Go here to d/l and install it. http://www.download.com/SANDRA-Lite/3000-2086_4-10369892.html?tag=lst-0-1

Once you install it, run it and click on the icon called "Mainboard Information" (also another name for the motherboard). It may take a few seconds because it has to scan your mobo and everything connected to it etc.. What we need to know is the Manufacturer and the Model...such as MSI Neo4 Platinum or Asus A7N...something like that. With this information we'll know everything your mobo has, but as selfbuilt pointed out you can easily tell if you have a video card built into your mobo by looking. Sandra 2005 is still an excellent program in any case.
