Problems with LG 32x10x40 CD-RW and Pioneer DVD

Greetings,

I just purchased a new system and put it together myself. One thing I wasn't clear on was the installation of the LG 32x10x40 CD-RW and Pioneer DVD-116 on the secondary IDE Channel.

Currently I have the Pioneer DVD as master and the LG CD-RW as slave - when burning there seems to be a problem with data transfer since the 2MB underrun buffer keeps running out. Burning a 32x rated CD on 32x takes 7 or 8 minutes because of the underrun protection which pauses the burning and such.

I'm using a regular non 80-pin IDE cable. The DVD supports UDMA 33 while the CD-RW doesn't support any UDMA standard but runs in PIO mode 4. The CD-RW is plugged into the first IDE plug while the DVD is in the 2nd plug. I've tried burning from CD-CD and from HDD-CD things still chug along. Only things running are WinXP and Nero. No defragging while burning 😛

My system is:

P4 2.0A GHZ
Asus P4S533 on the SIS645DX chipset with the latest SIS IDE Driver installed
512 MB DDR-2700 RAM
80 MB WD HDD w/8mb Cache on Primary Master
20 MB Fujitsu 20 MB HDD on Primary Slave
Pioneer DVD-116 on Secondary Master
LG 32x10x40 CD-RW on Secondary Slave

Windows XP w/the latest Updates
Nero Burning ROM 5.5.9.0

My other computer at home is a PIII 550 with an LG24x10x40 CD-RW and it can burn at 24x without any problems - speeds through a full CD in 4 minutes no problem, but it's on the secondary IDE channel without any accompanying CD/DVD-ROM.

Any suggestions on how to get my burning up to speed? Thanks

Kitridge

P.S. I'm in no hurry to open up the case and be fiddling around with jumpers and cables cuz last time I did that my first WD HDD died on me... 😱
