Problems with KT7-RAID and duron 600...

I bought a pretested duron that's suposed to be able to run at 900MHz, but I can't get it to run over 650 (more if I OC the FSB). I've got it running at 1.85 volts, but no matter what I do it won't OC. After I change the multiplier and I save & exit the BIOS, all it does it sit there. No signal from the video card, nothing. In order to get it running again I've got to power down and unplug the power cord. After that it boots up again at 600.

Anyone have any ideas?

Here are my specs:
KT7-RAID (duh)
Duron 600 (double duh)
FOP32-1 (30-40c with RC5 running @ 600MHz)
Corsiar PC133 CAS2
V3 2k PCI
Quantum Fireball 3.5 Series
Memorex CD-242E
Sound Blaser Pro (ick)
AMD something NIC
InWin Q500 with 300w PSU

A couple of things are suspect. What type of heatsink/thermal grease aer you using?
Does your chip have the L1 bridges connected? I would step it up gradually, that is how i did mine, a 650 that wasn't pretested. I only got mine to 750 at alarming temps before i tore the heatsink pad off and put some thermal grease on it.

I know the bridges are closed fine, I can oc it to 650 with no problems.

<< FOP32-1 (30-40c with RC5 running @ 600MHz) >>

Generic silicone compound that I got from the place that I got the HSF from.

I did step it up gradually. Start at 6, then 6.5, then 7, blank screen.

I dont know if the fop32-1 is different from the fop32.. but i had similar problems with my fop32..

the problem i think is there is a lip on the bottom of the fop,
if u take the sink off (be very very careful)

u will see it does not rest flat if you put it on your desk, the little lip elevates one side of the heatsink.. if you can file that lip down, you're in the clear.

my fop 32 cracked a good portion of my duron off, it simply didnt sit flat on the kt7 raid. luckily my duron still will work, but i have sinced switched heatsinks to a thermaltake generic style cooler, and replaced the generic heatsink fan with the global win 27 cfm one.

I'd wager the heatsink isnt flat up on the die, not only is this dangerous because heat on different areas of your die will be really really hot. but it puts immense pressure on parts of your die...

be very very very careful when removing the heatsink, that spring is freakin tight! and i cracked a large portion of the silicon off my duron ;[ removing that thing

The FOP32-1 is the revised versioon of the 32, it doesn't have the lip, and isn't anodized. The heatsink is sitting fine on the CPU, no funky sounds when installing the heatsink :).

Have you tried loading fail safe settings then only upping the cpu frequency and voltage?

As soon as I read that I restarted, loaded fail safe settings, uped the speed to 700, save an exit, blank screen, so signal :(.

This really sucks.:frown:

Alright man, check this. I got the same damn problesm. I got a 1Ghz with this damn mobo. problem, can't get it to lvoe me for more than like 5 minutes at 1.1. I got it at 1070mhz and wham, it freezes when I got Counter-strike running. I got it at 1050, and running fine. I think it's an al core that's why. but anyhoo, thats' all I can get from this mobo. However, it is the easiest mobo I have ever worked with dealing with overclocking, Ironic though, first time I have ever overclocked. :) Anyways, anyone got some settings that they can share with us. Thx

WTF? Okay, my duron 600, works at 6.5x, fails 7x AND 8x, but works perfectly at 9x? That's just weird. Blessed had the same thing happen so I just went for it, and, IT WORKED, 900MHz.

Thanks for all the help guys, now I just gotta get the FSP to 110 or 112 :D.

Where you can't overclock to certain, or many frequencies, it looks like if you redo the L1 bridges carefully, it fixes the problems for a lot of folks...

I have read many posts where these type problems were due to poor pencil jobs and once redone worked fine. Personally I have a Tbird I penciled in and it does 1000 @ 1.85 and 1050 1.95. Also have a duron 600 that will do 900 @ 1.85 and 950@1.95. I have yet to get any good results from overclocking the FSB (crappy Crucial pc133 cas3) but changing the clock works just fine. I have had to up the I/O voltage as much as 3.6 depending. And decrease my Dram timings also.

Yeah Ride, that's what a couple other people have said. So if the L1s aren't closed properly, then trying certain frequencies will make exiting the BIOS not work, and if it's done right then all frequencies should exit the BIOS?

Thanks for all the help guys, I'm running it right now at 950, and I acually got it to run at 998 :Q ! But it crashed ALLOT :frown:. Maybe with 1.95v it'll be able to run.

Wish me luck .
