Hello,

i have a fordlian mainboard that is capable of K6-III up tp 550
(it even is capapble up to K6-III PLUS).

the mainboard/bios string is : 02/02/2000-ALADDIN5-2A5KKF9BC-00
the bios is VER:3.3_66 (supports udma66 because id ali 1543C chip),
the chipset is aladdin 5

the bios itself says : Award Modular Bios 4.51PG
(i heard this is also called ELITE Bios or System Green Bios).
With the settings in this Bios i have huge problems now.

now i switched to k6-III 450 and also changed the jumpers (two jumpers
J1 and J7 for voltage and multiplier (i think) as in the mainboard manual described.

BUT now windows wouldnt start anymore and would halt the system with weird messages.
even the new installatioon of win98se wouldnt work, it would crash.

i tried the bios setup settings - didnt work.
at last, i set the bios to bios default setting (which is kind of security setting and
almoust disables any feature).

this now did work, and i could re-install windows98 se.

in this bios 4.51PG (i have the latest version available, the agp-ali6.zip is the bios i
already have) there are very many settings i never heard of, mostly memory settings etc.

the problem is f.e. the bus speed setting - it is now set to 7.16 Mhz, i don't remember
how it was before, but setting it to automatic would set this setting to CLK 2/4 (and in
this mode it didnt work). it would boot, but didnt start windows and also not some other
dos programs (some yes, some no) .

beside the 7.16 stable setting, it now works with the setting CLK 2/3, but with this
setting there are crashes every now and then in windows, the system suddenly wouldnt
react to anything and has to be reset. thats why i set it back to 7.16 Mhz.

Only the whole system now seems even more slow than it was with the pentium 1 200mmx and 233mmx.

my question : can somebody help me with the optimal settings for this bios.
there are some memory related setting i never heard of.
and there are a lot.

how must everything be set up so it works at full speed.
btw, beside the 7.16 Mhz setting at AT Bus Speed there is also these settings
all with CLK in the beginning : 2/2, 2/3, 2/4, 2/5 and 2/6

it runs also at 2/3, but instable.

i think the correct combination of setting could make the system far faster and better
than now.

can anybody help me with this.

i do have a small dos program called cmos.exe, this can save the cmos state and also set it back. i could send my settings (and the prog if needed) to someone who maybe has the same bios and cpu and can then provide me with his, the correct, bios settings.
(bios AWARD 4.51PG and K6-III nnn CPU).

if anybody could help, with direct setting instructions or a link to a page that has
further details, please help.

btw, the mainbboard manufacturer fordlian doesnt exist anymore.

thanks
