Running a d-link router, charter cable internet

For the last week or so about 90% of the time you try to go to any webpage it says the server cannot be found. But most of the time when you click try again it goes right to the page.

Anybody know what could be causing this and how to fix it?

thanks in advance for your help

I don't know if this would be applicable in your case, but sometimes cable modems need to be reset. I usually just unplug it for about a minute or so and that usually clears up some problems.

How is your DNS set up. Do you get IP, DNS, etc automatically from the router or did you set it up manually.

Assuming you haven't already tried this, you might try removing the D-Link Router and connecting directly to the Cable Modem. That might help isolate the problem a little for you.

I'm having a similar problem with my laptop and wireless connection. The computer shows that I am connected to the wireless network throuigh a D-Link DI624. But I can't get any messenger programs running or IE.
I have tried resetting the D-Link, running cmd and ipconfig without success. Everything was working fine until 2 days ago.

Need guru help, networking gods!

unhooked the router as c3p0 suggested and have internet connection

so going on the assumption now that the problem lies in the router

as far as unmerited's question i use the dynamic ip option since i have a cable modem

bayou, if you are using a pcmcia wireless card, try ejecting it and moving it to the second pcmcia slot, if you have one. I know it sounds crazy, but it sure solved the same problem with my IBM lappy and a Linksys pcmcia card.

thebigdude, it's probably just some setting in the router. I wouldn't assume it's bad yet. Although I have never had very good luck with D-Link stuff. Probably just me though.

most of the time showing associated to an access point, but not communicating is from the encryption being incorrect.

try re-entering the keys on the AP and client and make sure they are using the same kind (WEP, wpa, etc)

I've seen access points and clients "forget" their keys.

Thanks for the help. After an hour on the phone with D-Link, found out the wireless router is fried - leftover from the ex. Ordered a new one. Problem should be resolved. :)
