OK

I am using ICQ for a couple of years...

I am always reinstalling windows and restoring my contact list all the time so I am not losing any data.

my ICQ start to do a lot of dalays !!!

when I am recieving message for example it tooks 7 seconds to open the window !!!

when the ICQ is loading it takes 60 seconds !!!

I donot know what to do !!!
I reistalled ICQ and all was just fine !!! BUT then I restored my list and the problem came again !!!

I have 35 in my contact list... I tried to delete 20 of them and the problem is still there

BTW

why when I am deleting people from my list the backup is still 25MB ??? it's like I am deleting the users but they are still there !!!

why ?

I have a TBIRD 900 + 128 RAM and my system is running very good !

I have ICQ 2000B Build 3279

I also defrag my HDD and checked for errors...

Thank you very very very much for your help

Actually ICQ is a great program/idea but it really gets on my nerves now should really be renamed I'm sick of you.
If it was not for the fact that nearly all my friends use it, I would have got rid of it about a year ago.
It's a major resource hog and the cause of numerous lock ups and hangs on my machine.

It's a catch 22 situation...it is not reliable but eveybody uses it - so what to do?

I've not discovered any way to make it better/more stable - the most useful advice you'll get is to revert to the oldest version available.

My biggest moan currently is that the bloody thing will not "open", it gives the noise and the logo then hangs - ctr-alt-del, close program. Try again - then it works :(

Don't worry you are not alone in your suffering.....hehe..... :) ...most of my friends have the same complaint too!

have you ever tried to convert the database with *contact list only* option? even if your db is already 2000b. This way it'll strip off all the waste space in the history file reduce the size of your DB. I do is regularly to cut down the DB access(you really don't need to keep the history file longer then a few days)

Also I ran my ICQ with bare minimum amound of buttons and plugins, I tried to disable anything other then the minimum functions.

Anyway, I'm thinking about switching to Miranda ICQ when it has all the features I needed, or I might helping them writing it..

ZigZag: sorry, I should made it clear that it'll not convert any history... but this might be what bog down your system though...

Tates: The reason ICQ never finalized I think is this way they could not be held responsible for ANY damage or any legal problems.. that's why it's always alpha-beta-next year's alpha.. unfortunately with every successive version, it's become more and more bloatware (well, ever since AOL bought it...) I just hope that Winamp will not become bloatware as well. (Netscape 6 is already the victim)
