Problems with frontside firewire on Antec SX630 II

Okay, I've pretty much done all I can when it comes to this. So I'm posting here to see if anyone of you can help.

I bought an Antec SX630 II and a Soyo Dragon 2. The problem I encounter is the wire that leads from the frontside of the case to the mobo header, is not matching up. I called Antec and they told me how to swtich the cables around on the cable to match up with the onboard pins, but I'm still having problems getting any firewire devices to work with this port. I know that the onboard firewaire is on and they are being recognized by XP. But I still can't figure out what I'm doing wrong.

The onboard pin configuration is as follows:

CGND * * PWR0
PWR0 * * Empty Pin
B0MC * * B0PC
CGND * * GND
A0MC * * A0PC

While the case wire is:

No wire * * No wire
VP * * No wire
TPB- * * TPB+
VG * * No wire
TPA- * * TPA+

The pin assignments are based on Soyo's manual for the board while the wires on the cable were changed as per Antec. Still no frontside firewire. Can anyone tell me in what configuration I should be placing these wires into to make it work?

Look on frontx.com and check out their explanation of Firewire front panel hookups. It might explain better. I hate it when the labeling is so dissimilar...

I took a look and it's still pretty much confusing.

Perhaps I should contact Soyo.

. Looks like there is just one wire out of place just move the ground wire VG to the pin on the right (where your diagram says "No Wire") and that should do it.

Hmm...I came to the same conclusion earlier this morning. I'm going to try that and see what happens. I'll post my results.

Been busy with a new job, so haven't been able to post my results. Anyway, I did as Zepper suggested with no obvious results. I don't know what the issue is exactly. Any other suggestions?

This has become somewhat important since I'd like to use the native firewire for my iPod.

I see the issue... You have a soyo mobo... :shocked:

Okay, is that a bad thing?

You mean besides that soyo has the worst rep in the industry? Everyone I know, either in person or via the internet, that's used a soyo product over the past 4+ years has lived to regret the purchase (typically in a few months or less). Not sure if it's caused by poor manufacturing processes, poor (if even present) QC, or just using inferior parts in their hardware. Either way, they produce cheap priced crap, or high priced crap depending on how you look at it. I'd much rather spend a few dollars more and get a quality product that I know won't die on me in 2 months (or less) than get something (anything) made by soyo.

I've even seen them going into the PSU field... That's like GM going into producing gasoline and diesel fuel... Actually, GM could probably get that right a hell of a lot faster than soyo can do just about anything.

Maybe you already messed up the case's port or the header on the motherboard by plugging it in when the wires were not matched up correctly.

akira34: I've never had a problem with Soyo motherboards, but then again my experience has been only with two to date. Before upgrading, my system had a Soyo for over 2 years and I've never had any issues. Guess everyone's experience is different.

The J: Hmm...I hadn't thought of that. Would both onboard ports have been affected? I've have been trying the different pin configurations on only one port.

Then you are one of the very lucky, very few... Everyone I know hasn't had a soyo product or more than a few months before ditching it for a better product.
