 I recently bought a new AMD 900 system that was barebones. Missing harddrive and memory. I installed new ram, my old hard drive, and my LAN card. I booted up the system and everything installed to the new system okay. The only thing that does not run is my A: drive 3.5 floppy. I tried an old floppy drive and had the same problem. I tried different cables and still the same problem. Windows sees the A: drive but when I click on it an error message comes up saying there is no disk in the drive. insert disk and continue. The drive has power and makes the noise of checking the disk but still comes up with same message. I know the drive is okay, and am pretty sure the cable is too. I feel there maybe something in Windows that my be causeing this problem, but can't figure out what. System does not read any errors in disk controller either by connection or device. Help!!! could this be a software problem or is it something with the new motherboard.

I had the same problem on my system..light would come on & bios would see it fine but when I went to read a disk it would say no disk in drive or disk not formatted....but they were...stuck another drive on to see if it made a difference & it did ...new drive was the answer..try one first if you can...

I think I know what the problem is...try switching the cable around. For some reason everytime I build a system the darn FDD never get recognized..the light stays on..so that means the floppy cable is on wrong..Just try switching it around....

I agree with stockjock. The drive end of a floppy cable should connect to the A drive and the middle connector should connect to the B drive if you have one. It has something to do with the way floppy cables are designed (notice part of the cable flips over near the drive end of the connector.)

I tried switching the cable and even tried a different cable no luck. one way light stays on the other way light goes off after accessing but still will not access A: drive.
