Quick info is that I am running Vista x64 with uac disabled, dual-dualcore optys. Runinng the SMP client. I restart my computer and I can't get past this error. I've retried running install.bat. I've also reinstalled FAH to C:\users\xxx\fah ...Still doesn't work. Besides the 63 error code I also get this while trying to run install.bat

screen cap

I seem to have this happen once and awhile upon restart. But usually a simple reinstall fixes it. I also folled the install guide here on my last retry. http://fahwiki.net/index.php/H...nt_in_Windows_Vista%3F

idears???

Wish I had kept up on everything better so I could help you

From your screen capture it looks like it fails right after entering your password.
Are you logged on to the account that you made this password for?

Yea I am running that account. I also don't have it setup as a service if that makes things any easier.

I'm not a Vista person so I am a little blind but here are the things I think you are doing right:
running in a passworded administrator account while installing
installing to a folder that does not reside under 'program files'
not installing as a service (it doesn't shutdown right and is borked if you try)

usually, when things go this wrong, I try as hard as I can to get back to a 'clean slate' and then do it again and hope it works.

to get to a 'clean slate'

re-boot to make sure nothing F@H is running
log in as the same (administrator) account as when you installed
use add/remove programs to uninstall f@h
delete any and all directories associated with any previous F@H installation.
re-boot (just to make sure it's all gone)

login to your passworded admin account
create a directory somewhere with a name that indicates it is your first f@h instance
install your first instance, pointing to the directory you created.
after the install, go to that directory and run install.bat. if it doesn't work, I have no idea what to try different. If it does work, boot your machine (to turn everything off again)
login to the same passworded admin account
create a second directory somewhere with a name that indicates it is your seconf f@h instance.
install your second instance, pointing to this second directory.
after the install, go to that directory and run install.bat. (again, if it doesn't work, I'm stumped.. if it does, boot your machine (to turn everything off again)
now, login to the same account you have been using.
go to the first f@h directory and make a shortcut to the fah.exe file.
go to the shortcut properties and edit the target line to add the following switches:
-local -forceasm -verbosity 9. Now your target line should look like this:
"C:\Folding SMP 2\fah.exe" -local -forceasm -verbosity 9
run this first instance of f@h usiing the shortcut. and make sure it is working OK
if it is, re-boot to turn everything off
login to the same account again
now go to the second instance and create a shortcut to it's fah.exe with the same switches added. start the second instance using the shortcut. when you are configuring this one, make sure you say YES to the advanced options and when you get to machine ID, set it to 2.
after this configuration, re-boot (last time.... I promise!)

from here on out, you will need to start both instances, using their shortcuts everytime you start windows. you should get a text window for each one as you do. minimize them, but do not close them.

I know this is a long install process with so many (arguably unnecessary) re-boots, but since it is giving you a lot of trouble.... this is the most failsafe way I can think of to get everything going reliably.

So I finally got around to messing with this, how come you think I should run to smp clients?

Also do you know of anyway MPICH process manager? After uninstalling and deleting everything, when I run install.bat it says it stops MPxxx then removes and installs it. I'm not seeing it in my startup anywhere.

BTW I still getting hung at install.bat

Here's the FAH wiki for installing SMP in Vista: link

I used the "second option": creating a proper Administrator Account and then installing and running in that account.

This Wiki has been updated since I installed SMP in Vista so I'm sure about it.

Sorry I'm not of more help.

Ok I followed the directions and when I get to this part...

The install.bat file installs the SMPD service, and registers MPICH2 with your user name and password, as needed by the SMP client.
Click the Start button. Click All Programs, then click Accessories, then right-click the Command Prompt. Select Run As Administrator.
If asked, click Continue or Run at any additional UAC or FireWall prompts, etc.
In the Command Prompt, type C:\Users\%username%\FAH\install.bat and press Enter (where %username% is your user folder you created earlier).

When I hit enter smpd, mpiexec all say is not a recognized internal or external command, operable program or batch file.

I've tried launching it as admin and I still have the same issue in explorer that is. Maybe I'll have to sign up on the FAH forums.

Not to sound hateful or anything, but usually everything worked after a reboot if FAH hung for me, but after isntalling the affinity changer I'm having these issues. I unisntalled as one of teh first things but i'm not sure if it got everything.

Just to add a little more headache to my problem. I enabled the Admin account and logged into it and did all this.............Still the same damn problem. I'm going to do a very thorough search for every piece of fah and remvoe it this weekend and see if I can get back going again.

I'm sorry that you are having these problems, mooseracing :(

I'm not sure what you are saying here, but smpd and mpiexec are not files that you run. The service or client start and use them. The only file that you run is fah.exe after installing.

If it is when running install.bat that you are getting the "not a recognized internal or external command, operable program or batch file" error then make sure that smpd and mpiexec files are also in the directory from which you are running install.bat.

Yes, running FAH in Vista can test your patience.

Definitely go into the control panel "remove programs" and get rid of all
FAH stuff. If you have a registry cleaner, use that too after removing the FAH stuff.

Delete any FAH directories you have created...you need to start with a clean slate.

Now reboot and start the installation process. I was only able to get it to run in the Administrator account that was password protected. If you don't have this set up let me know and I'll walk you through it.

While you're in the admin account, download the FAH SMP for windows and extract the files into a directory called fah into your documents folder.

Go to the "start menu", find the "accesories" folder and then find "command prompt".
RIGHT CLICK on "command prompt" and choose "run as administrator". When the window opens, "cd" to your fah directory and then type install.bat, hit enter then hit enter again and type password, enter, type password again and then enter again. Whew! "Vista" will ask permission to do this and that....click allow a couple of times and you should be off and running with the install process. I would run 1xSMP for awhile and then move on to 2xSMP with affinity changer.
It's very important to clean everything out before you start the installation.

Hope this helps!
