problems with editing messages

ok, here is the deal. When I try to edit a message, it times out every time I hit the update button. It makes no since to me. I can reply to messages, create new topics, etc, but I can't edit them. I have tried this on a couple of different computers too. (i was using the same IPS, though).

are there problems with the forums right now, or is it just me? i would think it is just me, but either way, I want to know what the problem is. Any ideas?

No trouble here.

Have you tried restarting your browser? Clearing cache?

Maybe Zuni will have an idea.

i went and tried a different computer, and it is still doing it. i don't know what is going on, but it is starting to make me mad...:|

What browser/version are you using??

If, for example, you're using Opera, there are known issues with that.

Could help if we knew at least what browser you were using...

[edit]Azraele beat me to it. but edit works (ie5.5/win2k/cable)? 😉[/edit]

i am using IE 5.0 (i think?) its whatever comes with Windows 2000 as the deafault. Both ccomputers that I have tried this on are set up the same. They are both getting a 56k internet connection through the ethernet. (I have a separate box set up for internet).

i can do everything but edit a message. (it just times out)

Does it time out every time or every other time you try?? How consistent is it?

I have timeout errors occasionally, but usually hitting back and then retrying works for me.

its is 100% consistent. i cannot edit any messages. I have been trying to do that to my FS/FT thread, but it will not work at all. Its really weird. I will try dialing up on a modem in the computer to try it, and i will get back to you all. Thanks for the help.

are you adding links or something?

If your link is bad (or coded wrong) it will actually not let you edit.

(sounds stupid I know, but it happened a while back for me)

ok, the problem still persists, but here is more:

It seems that the same thing will happen when I try to reply to a long message. It all depends on the length of the message. I can post and edit short messages, but i cannot edit or post long messages. I think this must have something to do with my ISP. Here is a thread where I had to post twice to say everything I wanted to:

I remember someone else had this problem. I will go search and see if I can find that thread....
