Hello all,
I've been having a problem getting my CD-Rom working in DMA mode in Windows XP.
The CD-Rom I have is a Sony CDU4821 48X and for some reason Windows XP will not put it in DMA mode but leaves it in PIO. I know the Sony is DMA 33 because during the DOS bootup screen, it detects it as so plus I've got it to work in DMA 33 in Windows 2000 before. Right now it's acting as the primary-slave on the same IDE ATA 100 cable with my Seagate Barracuda IV HD. The Seagate is working fine in Ultra DMA Mode 5. I have an ECS K7S5A mobo.
Steps taken so far:
1.) Tried the obvious and set Device 1 (Slave which it is on) for Primary IDE Channel in Device Manager to PIO only then back to DMA if available. No luck. Still PIO Mode.
2.) Tried the above but rebooted after switching to PIO then again after switching back to DMA if available.
3.) Tried uninstalling the CD-Rom, then installing it again.
4.) Tried the above with a reboot after uninstalling.
I haven't tried physically removing the drive from the computer. I'm hoping I don't have to do that since my screwdriver is hiding somewhere.
Is there some kind of registry hack or something?
Any suggestions would be much appreciated. I'm losing hair as I type this!! If all fails, I'll just replace it with a DVD-Rom but I would rather figure this out since I'm curious about what's going on.
