Problems with cable (comcast)

I have a comp directly connected to the cable modem. comp specs are
P4 2.6
512 geil ram
P4P800 deluxe
western digital 80gb HD
Win XP Pro
the modem is a motorola surfboard

OK the problem I have is that whenever I play an online game or I download a large file, my connection seems to go dead, then the status lights on my modem flicker off and slowly come back on. Then after they are all back on (about a minute) I can continue what I was doing, but it'll just happen again. Sometimes I can play a game for 20-30 mintues b4 it happens, other times it happens within minutes of connecting.

Well I have an idea what the problem is. I had my comp for about 8 months and for first 7 months no problems. Then my mobo burned out so I RMA'd and got a new one. Ever since I installed this new one Ive ben having this problem. I had the exact same mobo as I do now so I don't know what the problem is exactly. I downloaded all the newest drivers, but that didn't seem to help. I also emailed comcast and they just basically said it was my problem and that the connection was fine. any ideas?

It sounds like you LAN card is broken,.If all you did was cahnge the mother board out for the same one and it stopped working I would say that would be the point of failure. Over the weekend, look for some deals on network cards( You should be able to find one free after rebate) and get one to test with.

Yeah that's what I'd recommend, just pick a NIC up or borrow one to at least find out if that's the problem.

I have pretty much the same setup as you, by the way. 🙂

EDIT: Woah, AMD, change your profile!

If the cable modem (such as Motorola Surfboard modems have) includes a USB option, then try that. Note: power must be removed to change from ethernet to USB connection type. Also note, the USB option will require a modem driver.
