Problems with burning CD's

OK, so I live in the dark ages...

I have a fairly large number of audio books on cassette that I'm trying to transfer over to audio CD (so I can then rip them to the computer for download to my MP3 player.) I'm using my old, trusty Pioneer CD burner, getting an analog signal from the tape deck.

The problem I'm having is my CDs... I've bought 2 spindles of music CD R's and they show up as 'PRO DISK' (protected disk) when I try to record them. According to the Pioneer's manual, these are 'professional use' disks... they need to be Consumer Use disks. What the hell is the difference and where do I get these magical Consumer Use disks? I have a small lot of TDK's in jewel cases... those work. So I bought a 75 spindle of TDK music disks... and they DON'T. 😡

Someone talk me off the ledge before I jump... D:

err, why are you burning to cd then ripping on computer? just record directly in computer...

I like the idea of the CD's for backup. I'm getting rid of the source material once I have it all transferred.

You need to get audio/music CD-Rs. There's a lot of misleading labeling IMHO.

I thought that's what I was getting...

...but, you are correct, they don't say 'music.'

I just got a 10-pack of Memorex 'music' CD-R's at WalMart today, they work. I'll know for next time....
