I just finished a clean install of Win98 and Win2k dual boot system. I
put the two OS's on seperate partitions and added the SP2 to Win2k.
When I run SANDRA te in 98 I get 24000+ on the drive bench and HDtach
gets 74mps read burst speed with a random access average of 7.3ms and
less than 10% CPU utilization. When I run the same in Win2k I get 13700
with SANDRA and HDtach gives me about 41.5 read burst speed with a
random access average of 13.2ms and more than 37% CPU utilization. What
the HELL is the problem with Win2K? What do I need to do to resolve
this. I've been jacking around with drivers and bios for days. Any
suggestion would be cool. Thanks.

SP 2 and VIA 4-in-1s = trouble

I use SP 1 and 4-in-1 ver4.31 (IDE driver for Win2k only)

It's in my sig. I couldn't even get my HD to register as UDMA in SP 2.

I read some benchmarks someplace that showed 2000 with SP2 with NO 4in1s was performance wise on par with sp1 and the 4in1s

i just did a clean install of 2000 on my friends machine and installed sp2 and its working fine.. maybe you could try that... I dunno

Win2k + SP2 on my system causes system hangs about 1 minute in duration on startup. Of course I have the 686B southbridge chipset on my FIC AD11 mobo.

This weekend, I installed win2k and Sp2. I installed the AMD AGP miniport driver only (5.22). No VIA drivers at all. Everything works great, UDMA, USB the lot. I have not yet benchmarked the HD though.
EPOX 8K7A (AMD 761 and Via S'bridge)
WD 400BB 40 Gb ATA 100.
