Problems with Asus A7V to printer using USB

I've had the exact same problem with 2 printers so it's got to be the PC. When I connect through USB, the PC recognizes the Lexmark Z45, but when I try to install the Lexmark software, it can't communicate with the printer properly. Has anyone had this or similar USB problem? Are there some settings (windows or BIOS) I need to check?

Any help appreciated, thanks.

i'm using win2000 pro and i've installed the via 4 in 1 drivers (I don't know if they're what you're reffering to). The USB ports are recognized and working properly in the Device Manager, but this is the first time I've tried to use them.

I have had problems with lexmark printers communicating with computers before via usb. Have you tried different devices in the usb ports?

amdskip,
No I haven't tried any other usb devices.
Did you ever get your Lexmark Printer to work?

Did you install the USB driver that came with the printer? It has to be installed seperately from the actual printer software. I use a Lexmark Z33 via USB and when I was running W2K this is what had to be done. Now run XP, and just plug and play. 😀

i had a asus a7v b4...via's usb sucks......
i suggest getting a pci usb card...and that will most definitely fix your problem.....getting an external won't work because it's still running off of the via usb.....i got an internal and external to solve the power problems i've had w/ my webcam and scanner...

Its funny, I also have the Asus A7V motherboard and I too have had problems with the USB. I have a Epson printer hooked up which works fine, but I have had numerous problems with both a Handspring Visor and Sony Clie working on this computer. They usually dont sync the first time and have to do a soft reset to get it to work. I had the Sony Clie hooked up to a Dell laptop and it would sync everytime. I have thought about buying a PCI USB 2 card and stop using the onboard USB. Any thoughts?

I have an Asus A7V, running an HP cp1700 printer perfectly. I have it plugged in to a USB port on my keyboard. I'm running XP, and it was completely P&P. I am pretty illiterate, but whenever it comes to printer problems, my first guess is always the driver.

Zerohm, the Lexmark driver that you installed, is it the most current one? (i.e. NOT the one that came on a disc with the printer)
