I have an AMD processor, 750 MHZ that is giving me fits.

I bought this processor with a Tyan S2390B mainboard almost a year ago. It seemed to run fine until around November then the computer began screwing up. At first netsacpe and IE would shut down with the illegal operation messages(Invalid page fault in unknown module) on loading then Windows would eventually fail to load at all. Even in Safe Mode. Could not get WIN98 to reinstall (Corrupt Cab file message). Tried different hard drives, one brand new, to no avail. I eventually gave up. In February I bought a new motherboard(Shuttle AK12) and also a new combo with a Duron 900 Mhz and a Shuttle AK31. The AK31 and Duron worked for about two days then went belly up (First message was something about unable to communicate with "Device 3 subject B" ) tried reinstalling Windows and could not, same message about Corrupt Cab file. Tried old T-bird in new Shuttle AK12. Same problem. Installed WIN98 on hard drive using other computer and put HD into computer with T-bird and it would not load Windows. Message this time said "Himem.sys has detected corrupt memory at address such and such and cannot continue. Press CTL+ALT+DEL to restart your computer".

So what is the problem??? Are AMD's just junk? Or is there a ghost in the case? I even changed power supplies.

I have since sent the second Combo back to MWAVE to be tested and they returned it. They did not say if they have found anything wrong. I am afraid to install it in this case out of superstition...silly I know but I am about ready to call a witch doctor or an exorcist. More likely I will stick with Intel from now on.

Thanks.

Yep....That was one of the first things I did. I have even changed all the drive cables and a different (slower) CDROM.

Also check the hard drive. Go to the hd's manufacturers website and get their test program.

The hard drive is OK...I tried three different ones. All three are presently working in other computers. Two as masters and one as a slave.
