Problems with Alpha 6035

I tried an ALPHA 6035 in place of my AMD provided HS and fan.
Temps went up from 47 to 57 and up till the machine wouldnt boot.

The beloved patriot from the AMD heatsink is on the edges of the core and I was wondering how one gets that off. Alcohol didnt do it.

I realize that the cpu core was not centered on the heatsink...so was the heatsink upsidedown...ie should I rotate it 180 and try again.

Do I have to use the Artic thermal stuff or whats supplied with the Alpha will do? (Its not the money but the long wait if I order the stuff).

Yeah, hte Core should be centered on the PAL... Also, did you get a PAL6035 with a Socket A clip?(rotate the alpha, and make sure the clip is centered over where the cpu will be underneath).

THe beloved patriot still on the edges of the core is likewise hindering performance. Use butane or vegetable oil or "Goo-gone" to remove it.

The alpha grease is decent grease, but I'm not sure how well it'll hold up in high-heat situations(it is silicon based). Just keep and eye on it, and you should be okay...

🙂I had it on wrong. Now with proper placemant the temps are more like 37. And low 40's after some QuakeIII loops in timedemo mode.

I used the grease that came with the ALPHA but have ordered some Artic to make sure I am running the best. Thanks for your response.
