Seriously, it sounds like some kind of a block. Try the math dept. at a university. The right professor would take on your math 'inabilities' as a challenge.

Actually I went to the local college and they told me I'd have to make an appointment since I wasn't an official student (I was taking an algebra class, but I guess they don't consider HS kids "students" unless they're college age).

Well, I made an appointment - only to discover you get 15 minutes with student teacher who knows less math than you do.

I've pretty much avoided math with the assumption of, "Hey, I am Jewish; I'm bound to learn it eventually.." I guess this is the price I pay..

Wrong (at least for me).
Why didn't you just go to the math lab?
Huh?...

Either my college system here is different than other states or
Troll until proven innocent.

Math Lab was just a small unventilated room with 55 kids and 2 teachers grading homework who occasionally assist a crying student.

I'm not a troll, but w/e.

Jesus I'm not a troll, this is a genuine thread - like all my others thread. My previous posts could considered unnecessary, out of anxiety, etc, but in no way am I a troll.

The vast majority of my popular threads were in regards to computer topics. I wasn't baiting anyone, or trying to argue with others, or be "controversial." I was just plain frustrated by the overwhelming information about computers. I don't have thousands of dollars to blow on a computer every 6 months like some of you, so I was really concerned. Sorry.

Anyways, back to Algebra - today we were reviewing plotting. I sort of understand it but would like to post some questions, although I don't know how I could do that. I'll finish up today and pm my anandtech math buddy later this week if I end up screwing on the bloated equations..

wow I'm tired.

Algebra is the bridging point from basic arithmetic math to more advanced math. For some, it takes a lot of time to master, for others, not so much. You will just have to put 2x as much effort or 10x as much, whatever is required for you to "get" it.

Personally speaking, I had a horrible time with multiplication and long division when I was in grade school. All the other kids made it look so easy whereas I would cry while doing them. I gave up and my mom made me do those problems over and over again from the time I got out of school until bed time. I didn't watch TV for months. That's how much effort it took for me to learn.

My journey with Algebra was somewhat similar. I had to spend a lot more time learning it. When I got to Calculus, I picked it up relatively quickly. Had I not gotten a solid foundation in Algebra/Trig, I would have failed Calculus.

Perseverance is your friend.

My mother gave me the,"you'll learn it eventually" attitude.
