Problems with AK31A.

I'm having this weird problems with an XP 1800+ and a Shuttle AK31A. When I got into the bios, the computer freezes when I try to go into the temperature setting to check at what temp the cpu is at. I can install Win XP, but it will freeze half way through it.

Could it be a bad motherboard?

could be a bad mb, could also be bad ram. can you swap ram with some other box and check it that way?
good luck

You're going to have to be a bit more specific.

AK31A has a plethora of issues, I'll give you a few things to look at:

- CPU core voltage. Each and every AK31A I've used has had the core at 1.66-1.68, rather than 1.75. Depending on the chip, it may need the full 1.75 volts to maintain stability at its rated clock. Try using one of the +0.xxx settings to get it at or even slightly above 1.75v.

- RAM. Check your timings and options. If you're trying to populate all 4 slots, forget about it. This board is terribly unstable with 4 DIMMs, no matter the make. Try very conservative timings and work down. Try 2T command rate rather than 1T, particularly with 2 or 3 DIMMs.

Try using just your video card first, removing all other PCI cards. Also, check your power supply.
