Problems with accessing data on external HDD

Hello All:

I have been having a very typical problem with the some of the data i have on my external hard drive.

I have this 200 GB WD HDD which i use as a external HDD in a enclosure. I wanted to take backup of my desktop and to expedite the process i decided to connect the drive as a slave on the desktop instead of connecting as USB.

As soon as restarted the computer it gave me an error - Unrecoverable data....xxxxxx

i immediately shut down the computer and now i am not able to access some of the files and folders on the HDD. They are converted to a 'file' of 32 kb size, irrespective of the file types. I have no idea what these files are and how i can get back the data i had in these files/folders.

Can anyone please help me to recover my lost data.

try spinrite6 [works on anything - amazing proggy], or getdataback [not sure if it works on usb - can't see why not though]
