problems with Abit be6-2 and FCPGA

Hi,

I'm having a problem putting together a new system. Here are the specs

Abit BE6-2 (newest revision w/ HPT3770 controller chip)
Cumine FCPGA 600E cB0
Iwill Slotket 2
PC133 128MB RAM
Diamond ViperII AGP Card
blah blah blah

the problem is that the motherboard won't post with thse components installed. I tried the slotket/cpu combination in an older Abit BE6-2 motherboard and it worked fine. I tried the RAM in the other mobo and it worked fine. I even tried using a different video card on the newer Abit board, and no post.

I took the mobo to the store, and the guy put an SECC2 Pentium II chip and some ram and whatever, and the board posted. so he said it worked and i had to take it back. Anybody have any ideas or experience with this setup? any help will be greatly appreciated.

thanks

Could be a bad slocket, but I dont think thats very likely. I would take the Abit back and get an MSI or Asus.

its not the slotket... i tried it on another machine and it booted. problem is i can't take the motherboard back without getting charged a restocking fee. any other ideas?

There should NOT be a restocking fee if the product is defective, or in this case doesnt work.

well... it is defective for the setup i have. but the guy in the store put a SECC2 PII and it worked fine. so i don't know... i need some help.. otherwise i'm taking this POS back! thanks

Do you have your hard drive plugged into one of those highpoint controllers? If so, change them back to the on board ATA33s. The thing right now is, it doesnt work for you, does it matter if *their* SECC2 worked? Absolutely not.

you said he tried a P2 in the board? It may be weird- but maybe the mobo doesn't have a current bios to support coppermines. Weird but it seems both the slotkey and motherboard work fine- but P3e won't work- doesn't hurt to check.

if i can't get anything to display on the screen, how would i update the BIOS?

i don't have an ISA video card either

yes i have a pci vid card... but therein the problem lies. I put the pci video card in with the slotket, cpu, and ram... those three things... and no video signal to the monitor.

Hm... what you might want to do, is take the board back, along with all your hardware, and make them boot it up for you. If not exchange for something else.

In this situation I would almost say that you DO need to update the BIOS. Ask the guys at the shop if they will let you bring in a floppy with the BIOS, use their PII and let you flash to the newest BIOS, though my BE6-2 worked fine with a slotket and a P3-700 cB0, with no required BIOS updates...though it required a BIOS update to correctly identify the CPU at POST.

an antec case with 300W PS.. no shorting on the mobo... sparkle power supply. i don't think the PS and case are a problem.. the fans spin, the hard drive makes noise, the cd-rom makes noise. just no video signal...

i can't shut off the comp by just pressing the power button, i have to hold it down for 4 seconds, if that helps any

Sorry to bring this up again, but I am having this same problem. I have the same motherboard, a GeForce II MX, and 128 MB PC133 Micron. The setup intermittently will not POST. When it does POST, it works like a champ. Anyone else have or heard of this problem?
