Problems with a EPOX EP-9NDA3+

I just bought a EP-9NDA3+, and was completely satisfied with it, but I can?t get it to stay booted up. If I reset the CMOS it will boot-up fine, but then when it reboots after I change the start up sequence it will not reboot again. I get a code on the LCD readout, code: FF. When I look through the manual the closes code that I see is FFh, I dodn?t know why there are three letters in the code because my LCD only displays 2. Anyway if it is FFh it means:

1. BIOS chip inserted incorrectly
2. Incorrect BIOS update version
3. Mainboard problem
4. Add-on card inserted incorrectly.

So I go to Epox?s slow-ass website and look for a BIOS update, but none are to be found, so I think all I have left are the options of messing with the BIOS chip or, RMAing the board.

My questions are, how do you reset the BIOS? I have never done this, and that is something that isn?t in the manual. 2nd is there any other solutions anyone has? My guess of what is wrong with it is it is having problems with my CPU. When I bought the combo Epox said in their product description that the motherboard supported the 2000HT chips, so I figured the 3400+ would also be supported, but maybe not. I don?t have another 939 CPU lying around to test my theory, so I guess you guys will have to guess with me.

Thanks

FFh just means FF "hexadecimal".

I have a 9NDA3+. No problems here, but I haven't changed the boot sequence.

There may be a bios setting to load the defaults. My system is running a stability test at the moment, but I can check tomorrow.

If you have the 3400+, do you have the HTT set to x4?

It was set to 5x, I changed it and it did boot right, but I still have the FF code. What code does yours display?

Thanks

The LCD displays FF after booting up. That's normal. I had an Epox 8KHA+ that had the same LCD feature and would display FF after booting up.

The manual says that a FFh code means "Int 19h attempted". Int 19h is the BIOS command to atttempt a boot from the hard drive. That's the last command the BIOS runs to boot up, which is why the display stays on "FF".

Great!!! I am half way through my Windows installation. I am glad you had the answer for me; I would have RMAed a perfectly good board.

This is my first EPOX board, and I know when I opened it up I was thinking that it was the most impressed I have ever been with a motherboard, just with its packaging and contents. I have had literally 30 different motherboards, mostly ASUS, ABIT, and Giga-byte; and by first impression this is by far my favorite.

Thanks a Million FullRoast

Glad I could help. 🙂

I hope things go well with the 9NDA3+. I have only had mine since Monday, but things have gone really smooth so far. I had been itching for a 939 board for quite awhile, and when the lower end 90nm chips came out, I grabbed one and the 9NDA3+. The Epox 8KHA+ was one of my favorites, rock solid, and I had just given it away to a friend in need, so the timing was good.

Let me know how things go.
