Problems with a 7900GT and some games

This is pretty odd. Yesterday I got my evga 7900gt co in the mail, along with a pentium d 805 and an intel motherboard and some patriot ddr2 800 ram. I tossed it all together, everything seemed fine. Got all the intel stuff installed, the video card stuff (downloaded the beta drivers) and then started playing around to see how the system worked. (I have win xp pro 32bit installed atm.)

WoW works great, ~60fps in ironforge, only dips to 50fps sometimes, with everything maxed at 1650x1020 or whatever that weird widescreen resolution is that my LCD uses.

3dmark '06 ran (although only got a ~4600 score, probably a lot I have to tweak, I don't care about benchmarks anyways.)

HL2 works, all maxed, nice and fast (104 fps in the video card test in CS:Source)

The problem is, a fully updated bf2 (1.21) and quake4 (1.0.4) start, you see the splash, then they exit with no error messages. Just poof, back to desktop after the screen goes black. I've nuked the configs in the q4 dir, made no difference. Same for bf2.

Other than that, the system is working perfectly. Any ideas?

Cheers,
David

I guess I need to be more specific in the future, this is my third post getting responses with questions I already answered.

I *am* using the 84.20 drivers, I.E. the beta drivers on Nvidia's site.
