I have 3 memory slots. I currently have 2X128MB 133Mhz in there. I then put a 256MB 133Mhz in. I booted the PC and it stoped just after it checked the memory. Then next time I booted in managed to get into windows but Blue screened with some page fault just as it was going past the login screen in W2k. I then rebooted it and changed the speed to 100Mhz it worked fine after that so I thought maybe the 256 was a 100Mhz but then I did a few tests:

The 256 and 1x128 @ 133Mhz work fine.
The 256 and 2x128(1x128From other PC) gives same problems as other 128.
The 256 runs fine @ 133Mhz on its own in the PC.
The 256 and 2X128 @ 100Mhz works fine.
Diagnostic: Anything in the third slot will only run at 100!

Whats wrong?

This is a shot in the dark, but go into the BIOS. There should be an option where you can change the timing for each DIMM bank (i.e. Normal, Medium, Fast, Turbo) Set them all to Normal or Medium and see what happens.

Also, when you have different size sticks of memory, the biggest stick should always go in the first slot. (0 Dimm slot) Good luck!

basically, the only thing u can really do is fiddle aroudn w/ the bank configuration...

put different sticks into different banks...largest memory in bank 0?>.i don't believe that's a fact or anything, but i do believe that it sometimes matters if the memory is single or double sided and/or the density of the chips it uses....
