Problems with 2 computers on 1 router

Here is my problem. I have 2 computers hooked up to a router. Lately 1 of the computers has been giving me problems. It won't connect to the internet while the other computer works just fine. It will sometimes work and get on the internet but after about 5 minutes I get the "page can not be displayed". I called my internet service provider and did the steps over the phone with them and its not a problem on their end. We did a ping test and it pinged yahoo so they said it sounds like a problem with the computer. I had this same problem over the weekend and called them too but somehow they fixed it by essentially resetting the modem and router.

The computer i'm having problems with is a dell and I have windows XP. I am not good with computers so bare with me.

I can't send a hijack log file because I have no way of sending it to this working computer. Nothing works on it. Any steps I could try?

I have a few spyware remover thigns I use but that doesnt seem to fix anything. (ad aware, spybot, spysweeper and regscrubxp)

Welcome to AT Network Forum.

If one computer works well it is Not an ISP Internet connection problem.

You BAD computer probably have BAD Network Configuration.

I would take out the Network card reboot without Card (to clean the Network Setting) Insert again the Network Card and configure the Network manually from scratch.

Log to this page it has a lot of links to instructions to Windows Network Settings, and Sharing.

Link to: Windows Network - Installing & Sharing.

If you can not or would not incline to start from scratch, you can try to repair your current Network settings by using these procedures: http://www.ezlan.net/clean#refreshnet

Do you have anything like Norton Internet Security or a software firewall installed? They can be the cause of problems with internet connections.

Jack, thanks for the links. The problem is, I don't know what i'm reading.

How do I find out if I have a firewall? The internet will attempt to work for a few minutes (loads very slow) and it works for a few minutes but then I get the 'page can not be displayed'.

I just went to open my limewire to listen to soem music and it said I dont have an active internet connection or a firewall is blocking limewire from accessing the internet.

How do I check for a firewall?
