Problems when disabling onboard audio on MSI Pro2a

Hey all, need your opinion on my problem.

I have a Microstar Pro2a motherboard, great board. This is my first motherboard with onboard audio so disabling it is still new to me. I've enabled (auto, in bios) the onboard audio, installed the drivers and works fine. I then tried to disable the on board sound, install my sound card (vortex 1 8820 chipset and vortex 2 8830 chipset, separately). Windows boot and then I installed the drivers for them and restart. When it boots again I hear the startup music in Windows 2000 and when I play mp3s through winamp it seems to work fine. I will then try to play a movie/mpg/avi file or quake 3 and either there will be no sound or it will freeze the computer. If it doesn't freeze and I try to play another mp3 in winamp I get no sound and the graphic bars in winamp will start moving like music is playing then stop and just fall back to the bottom. I downloaded the most recent win2k drivers for both sound cards and am still getting the problems.

Anyone have any suggestions I can try. BTW I have a Duron 700 overclocked, but I have put it back at 700mhz when I did all these installations and driver installs.

Might try doing a search on Vortex, I just did and seen a few post on new drivers for that card and Win2000. You might find what your looking for.

Good Luck!

Have you confirmed that you disabled the on board audio in BIOS. Also check for IRQ conflicts.

There are no red or yellow flags in the device manager so it doesn't seem like there are any IRQ conflicts. Yes I'm sure the onboard sound is disabled. The driver AC97 doesn't appear in the DM when its disabled.
