Problems /w P5ND2

My friend built somone a system using the new P5ND2 board. He hooks up everything, turns it on, gets nothing. He leaves for the summer shortly after that, leaving me with the headache.

Now then:

When you power on the board you get no video, no beep codes, no woman talking to you. If you pull the CPU, still no video, but you get the beep code for no CPU and the woman saying the same thing. Same thing with removal of the RAM module.

While testing this I used 3 graphics cards that were new out of the box. I can't guarantee they are all good, but the odds of having 3 DOA out of the box are sorta low. I have tested it with a REGULAR PCI graphics card that is a known working card, and still no video/post/woman (if everything is hooked up).

I have also used a known working power supply with more than enough power than the board needs. There is also NOTHING hooked up besides the core components (Vid/RAM/CPU) as to affirm nothing else is halting the boot.

I have called around literally all the listed computer shops in my area to see if they have a working system I can test the components on, but none of them do.

It boils down to the question, what is bad/causing the system halt?

-Processor: I have tried with/without a processor with the results above. I would venture to say its not the processor, but I don't know if these boards will boot some sort of display and say "No CPU installed" like previous boards have done for me.

-Ram: Used 2 RAM modules that have been known to work with this board as well as meeting the minimum speed requirement were used. Tested every slot with each DIMM. Removing it produces the results stated above. I find it unlikely that 2 DIMM's would be DOA. It is still possible, but unlikely. Also, if the board display's "No RAM installed" or something similiar, then I can rule that out as well.

-Graphics: Tested 3 PCI-E cards with the board set to boot from a single card. Still received no POST/Video/Woman. I have booted without a card but I DO NOT get somone telling me no GFX card installed. I have also tried using a regular PCI graphics card that I know is working and still did not have a display.

-Motherboard: This is board #2. Only 2 jumpers on the board, which are set correctly. Battery is seated in its holder, nothing else was hooked up to the board during the testing.

Now then, is it safe to say this board is dead (for a second time)?

Again, I CANNOT affirm that the CPU/RAM is not DOA. I have however pulled them, which in the past has atleast given me a display telling me they do not exist. I CAN say that the regular PCI graphics card is in good working order, but produced no video. When everything is hooked up, I get no POST beep/Video/Woman voice.

I had the same exact problem with a P5ND2-SLI recently. I was wondering: is my 7800GTX was just too new or what?

The key to finding the solution to this one for me was that the keyboard and mouse (both usb and ps2) were not getting power. No num lock, caps lock, no nuthin. The fans all came on just fine, green light on the motherboard, but no beeps, no voice, and no video. The motherboard was getting power but refused to send it to the peripherals.

I decided to read the manual. This Asus manual is pretty awful, but still better than most I've read in the past. In it you will find that not only do you have to connect the main motherboard power supply connector, but you must also connect a four pin power cable to a socket midway between the CPU and the back of the motherboard (where the external connectors are). Without this 4pin cable connected your machine will not not supply power to the pci bus, usb, or ps2 i.e. -- and it will not post.

Hope this helps,
