Updated 7/30/05: Well, after the last update (4/4/05) I solved numerous problems. There are still tiny little bugs here and there and in time I'll update those. I think I may make another thread for the sake of keeping everything organized and short. Soon I'll reformat andd I'll probabaly ask some questins when I'm up to that point. If anyone can PM me some tweaks for Windows XP that would be great. Or if someone would like to PM me to any tweaking site (from windows XP tweaks, to overclocking tweaks, I don't really care) that would be awesome (please, I already know what google is ;) ). Anyway I'll either update this site and bump it in the near future, or just make a Problems Version 3.0 thread. So without further ado (spelling?) here are some problems (and questions) I have.

The Problems:
1: Does the HIGH MAT burning program you get from windows update work well? Or does it make coasters? What's a good burning program?

2: Are there any tweaks for Windows XP I should know about? What about links to tweaks?

3: It keeps trying to uninstall my hard drive, how can I stop this? I really want this problem gone.

Here are my system Specs:

Cpu: AMD Athlon 64 2800+

Mobo: Asus K8N-E Deluxe

VGA: Geforce 6800 GT

Keyboard/Mosue: Logitech MX Duo

Case: Cooler Master Praetorian

PSU: Enermax Noisetaker 470 Watts

HD: Western Digtal Raptor 74 GB

Speakers: Logitech Z-640

Sound Card: Audigy 2 ZS (normal)

Ram: 2 512 MB sticks of Corsair Value Select 2.5 CAS for a total of 1 GB

OS: Windows XP Home Edition w/ SP2

head over to the tech support forum bro.

Make sure the IDE led cable is plugged in the proper way on the mobo. I have had mine backwards before.

The slow booting can be a bad sign for stability. You might need a BIOS flash or somesuch. I'd check all the mobo settings carefully as when they conflict with the BIOS there can be ugly delays. .

But for better info head over and let the pros help ya in the tech support forum

Like jterrell said unplug the hdd led and turn it around. Led's are polarity sensetive and have to be plugged in correctly.

As far a being slow hard to say. I know my asus a7n8x if I swap processors the board will boot like in safe mode. It boots 100 Mhz FSB. I have to go in and change manually. The only thing is I don't think it will pass that screen until I enter the bios. Actually it has been a while since I have done that. Anyhow you might try going into the bios and selecting the defalt or minimal settings and try that to see if there is any difference.

try disabling hardware - enable only the ESSENTIAL stuff - cpu/ram/psu/hdd/vga.
See if that cures the long waits -
If yes, then add one thing at a time to see what causes the prob

first of all, use a DOS based program to update your BIOS to the latest. then report back all of your CPU/memory/FSB/HTT related BIOS settings.

Woah... Hi dude how's it going... ok 1st you shouldn't think that way, a BIOS update is like medicine for your mobo. inject STAT. secondly, if all you are experiencing is a little bit of odd textures in CS Source, get a better video card or RMA the one you have! just my 0.02 cents man. lastly... long pauses during post / boot sequence in my experience is usually a sign of a bad or defective device on one of your IDE channels... try disconnecting one at a time and see if you can isolate a possible culprit. i'd run chkdsk or scandisk too.

let us know how you make out... i have a feeling you will :p

I'm sorry, but I was bumping it for my other questions that haven't been answered. I've been too lazy to test out what others have said, but i've been planning to do it this Friday. Next time I won't be so lazy :)

aha - you gotta test some suggestions out, and tell us what is happening, cos, otherwise, what is the point in posting?

I know, i know - i've been in the same position myself.
You are waiting for someone to post saying - 'I had the same problem, and found that if i just moved this connector to there, it fixed the problem'.

just think that there might be a good suggestion somewhere in the thread.
Start with the easiest first, then work your way up.

Good luck,
keep posting

Ok I disconnected the IDE thing that connects the DVD Rom drive I have and now it's way faster. I'm not even going to bother, on how it doesn't work. It works perfectly with it's own IDE wire thing. Anyway thanks. That's one problem off the list.

1: I don't believe my video card is messed up, it works fine for everything else. Also this is the only map where this thing happens AFAIK.

2: Ok should I do a bios update then? I have like 1001 which one should I do? How do I do it. Keep in mind I'm a newbie in this so I don't want to risk messing up my motherboard.
