Problems using internet and internet explorer

on one of my computers, i recently started having problems using the internet. it is connected through a linksys 4-port router to a cable modem, sharing a road runner internet connection with 2 other computes. just a few days ago, it seems as though the internet on this computer stopped working. when i use internet explorer, i get this error message, and a button called "Microsoft Internet Explorer - Microsoft Internet Explorer" appears on the taskbar, but clicking on it has no effect (i have to right click -> close to close it). this occurs every time i attempt to go to any website. in addition to this, any online program (aim, anti-virus updates, e-mail, etc) also don't work. however, i know its not a network problem, because i am able to send/retrieve files to and from other computers on the network. but, the other computers on the network work just fine. does anyone know why this is happening, and what i can do to fix it?
 
Try going to the Internet Options and clicking on Advanced > Restore Defaults.
You can also try clicking on "Reset Web Settings" under the Programs tab.

Edit: Reboot after doing this, BTW.
