Problems using IE5 after installing Win 2000

When going to the internet in Win2K using IE5, I get a message saying "Try Offline or "Try Again". I click "Try again" and everything is ok until I reboot. Then I have to go through the whole process again. Any ideas?

I'm assuming your using a LAN type connection (DSL/cable) - did you use the Internet Connection Wizard?

Well I reinstalled Windows 2000 again and went through the Internet wizard. No luck !!!! Someone please help !!!!!!!....🙁

in IE, go to tools, internet options. click the connections tab. make sure it is set to never dial a connection, click lan settings button, uncheck everything.

Been there done that...no luck. Wow, with all the smart people on this board, I can't belive no one can figure this problem out. I think I finally got one you guys can't figure out....LOL

Make sure "automatically detect settings" is checked off under tools, internet options, lan settings...

On my home computer it is checked and I don't have to hit try again..
On my laptop all boxes are clear and each time I open IE i have to tell it that it is connected to the internet..dumb computer!!

I had the same problem. For the life of me couldn't get it to work out, then I updated Windows (windows update) and the Driver for my NIC( I have a netgear). Then when I went through the wizard again, it worked just fine after that. Hope this helps.
