Problems uploading results

Hi guys,

Wonder if you can help. I have been trying for days now to upload climate zip files and einstein results. The annoying this is that both of the get to 100% or slightly above and then give and erros and reset. With files that big (especially the climate files of almost 5 meg) and a pay per meg dial up connection, it is painfull and costly.

With the help of amb.borg a while back I have been using proxy servers and been swopping between them. I get the connection, but then at the every end of the upload, it fails. I can aslo download. So whats wrong??? I have lots of results and I can't get them back.

HELP!!!!:brokenheart:

Hey Perry, I know Eintsein had some problems a while ago, but all seems fine now with Einstein and CPN. Are all the results doin the same or are some uploading and others not? Have you tried uploading them without using a proxy server since all seems to be working fine in SA now. What message you get in Boinc manager under the message tab when the upload fails?

Hi Johan,

Seems to be getting better. But still having problems with climate. But it may have been because of their problem (bug) even though it was other WU's. And yes, I have tried with and without a proxy. Hey, did you know there is a proxy site for Zimbabwe!!! Did not know they even had computers, let along electricity to run them!!!

Another question. I have been running SETI and Einstein with the optimised code - wow, what an improvement. The only problem is it is killing my dial up connection - doing about 60 WU's per day of SAH - 20 megs and that is only one machine. Wish I could run more but $$$. Do you know if there is a optimised porgram for SZTAKI or QMC? They are small downloads, and uploads, so I was hoping to nail the credits with them instead.

I'm very glad to hear you're on the go again Perry! 😀 lol About Zim.. that one might just be the only one they have and it's propably running of solar power! 😉

Man that gprs/$$$ must be killing you, any chance you could get adsl or isdn? Unfortunately there's no optimized clients for Sztaki or QMC that I know of. That's maybe the biggest problem with using optimezed clients, the increase in traffic, especially if you have to pay per meg. 🙁

Hi,

I just tried again to upload a climate result and after 2.40 meg it failed again (full size file) with the following messages:

18/04/2006 19:54:48|climateprediction.net|Scheduler request to http://climateapps2.oucs.ox.ac.uk/cpdnboinc_cgi/cgi succeeded

18/04/2006 20:35:40|climateprediction.net|Temporarily failed upload of sulphur_h7rt_100803225_1_2.zip: error 503

18/04/2006 20:35:40|climateprediction.net|Backing off 3 hours, 21 minutes, and 6 seconds on upload of file sulphur_h7rt_100803225_1_2.zip

So it is quite frustrating.

Well, I want to get ADSL, but at the moment, I am in the middle of, shall we say, a domestic problem, but as soon as that is resolved and I can move back to my flat, I will have it installed. It will cost me the same as the GPRS is (with 3 times the capacity). Last year I thought ADSL was expensive, but not any more. BTW, I was estimating that if I ran my 8 machines only on SETI I would consume the 3 gig per month. Your machines must be prosessing a heck of a lot of data.

Hi, I see what you mean about CPN, man I don't know what the problem can be.. maybe you should go to the CPN forums and post your problem there. I had a problem a while ago with CPN wu not uploading.. just can remember the error it showed, but I got the answer on the CPN forums that it means the proxy server I'm uploading the file through didn't support files larger than 2meg or something being uploaded through it, so I just changed it an it worked.

Sorry to hear about your domestic problem.. hope all turns out fine. Oh and I've got no idea what my bandwith usage is and I'm a little scared to actually try and find out.. but it did go down a lot when I switched a lot of my machines from seti to qmc. 😀

Sorry to hear about the problems you're having. Aside from the recent power outages at E@H, no other problems have been reported for that project recently.

I do seem to recall though something about the uploading/downloading of workunits that had to do with geograhic locations or time zones. 😕 You may want to try searching the E@H forums for that.

Edit: One other thing I thought of.. some project don't seem to play quite as well when sharing resources. My experience thus far with the Leiden Classical project is that it will play fine for a couple days, switching between project, but then won't upload or download automatically. To test this, I picked a machine and set it to only run Leiden, and I have yet to see an issue. So perhaps your problems could be related to sharing of resources?

Thanks for the advice guys. I will try that. Interesting idea that the proxies may limit bw through them.

In the mean time I have decided to switch one P4 machine to SZTAKI. Have you noticed with SZTAKI that if you stop a WU part way, it resets? I was running it on my laptop until I saw that. Not nice if you are 99% complete!!!

Networkman - I mainly run single projects per PC, so I have not really see than issue. What I have seen is that if there are two projects on a machine, saw climate and SETI (there are HT P4's) it will run seti complete and then run climate. It would be nice to have it run SETI on one process and climate on the other. I have not seen anything in the preferences stuff.

Poor old us at the bottom of Africa. But we still kick but not so Johan!!! 😀

Hi! To be honest I've never really noticed that with SZTAKI, simply cause I've never really checked.. but that is very strange.

I always run 2 projects on a machine and in your boinc project account you can set: Switch between applications every xx minutes, it's 60min by default, so the one project will run for 60min and then the other for 60min and so on.

lol Yeah poor old us.. but we do indeed still kick butt all the way!! 😀
