Problems since new Mobo

The Motherboard on my computer recently fried so I went out and purchsed another one. I decided to also upgrade the cpu and ram at the time. I also did not reinstall windows. Since then my computer has been rebooting on its own (exactly the same behaviour as someone pushing the reset button)

Windows XP Pro
AMD Sempron 2400 <- New
512 DDRAM <- New
Asus A7V8X-X <- New

I thought about reinstalling windows, but if I put my windows cd in while windows is running it says my installed version is newer and won't let me do anything. If I try to boot from the windows CD it starts into the setup and it gives me a STOP error: DRIVERS_IRQL_IS_NOT_LESS_THAN_OR_EQUAL (or similar)

As far as I can tell that is cause by an out of date BIOS but my BIOS is fully updated. What should I do?

Thanx for your help in advance

Check and post what your Voltages are in the BIOS. Also check your RAM timings.

I would have suggested a WinXP Repair Install, but since it won't boot off CD that'll have to wait. However, what was your previous motherboard?

You can't install WinXP SP1 over WinXP SP2. If you want to save your old install, you can boot up the old board, and uninstall SP2. Then you can do a repair install with your new board. You're better off doing a clean install though.

Spontaneous rebooting is usually a PSU problem, but you didn't give much info on your hardware...

Welcome to the Forums 🙂 What speed is your DDR rated for, what brand and model of power supply do you have, and is there anything on the hard drive you can't live without?
