I have a computer running windows 98 SE. Most of the time it won't shutdown. The monitor will go black and it will just sit there running. The power button won't shut it off. If ya hit reset it will reboot. But usually just flip the switch on the Surge Protector. Any suggestions?

. This type of problem has plagued Win since W95. They should have it pretty well nailed down by now. But then, it is Mickeysoft...
. In my experience, shutdown problems are caused by device drivers. Often it was fancy mouse drivers. I have uninstalled, shutdown and then installed the latest version with great success. But there are other causes too. The best place to go for info on startup/shutdown is the Windows Support Center . That site has extensive info on the start/shut problem with links to the appropriate MS knowledge base articles. Every Win user should have this site in their Bookmarks.
