Problems running rc5 as a serivce in w2k adv server

I installed the client on w2k advanced server with the "-install" in order to run the client as a service. However, when I look at the services list, rc5 or distributed.net isn't anywhere to be found. when I log out of the computer and then log back in after a few minutes, there is no progress on the client screen which indicates to me that the process has stopped.

Also, what are the settings for the minimal buffers. I have a recently gone bad DSL line that i'm trying to keep away with RC5 (as a side benefit of course). But my cpu (AMD K6-3 333mhz) is so slow that by the time, the flushes the buffer, the line is asleep again.

Thanks!

On my Win2k Pro, the rc5 client is listed as distributed.net client and Automatic / started.

It has always worked that way, even on NT 4.0 and Win2K Server beta. As far as progress indication, sometimes it is hard to tell if work is going on, but you have great indications using the Task Manager.

If DNETC.exe is taking 99+ percent of CPU time, you are in business.

Check the Event Viewer to see if the client is generating some kind of error on Service Start-up.

I would suggest going to the Services app and see if distributed.net is there as a service, and if so, it is set up as automatic. It should also tell you if it is started or not. If it isn't start the service, then check the task manager as JonB suggested.

you can probably tell the client to flush every block, and use the smallest block size. That should make for interesting incrementing at Mika's 🙂 hehe
