Glad the light is dawning. I tried to have you do that back on 12 December, note 5.

Sometimes USB HID's are not "seen", i.e., usable due to different drivers (linux) in the Rescue Media. I keep a separate wired mouse for such occasions. It works. :)

You did, indeed! But, the one time I used Acronis to recover my system I just used the factory CD and everything came up roses... probably Beginner's Luck... :sneaky:

You are also the reason (from past posts...) why I started trying out my recovery systems to see that the actually WORKED in reality, not just in theory.

It never occurred to me that even though the program was installed and running on the system, it wouldn't work using the very same install CD to recover the system (as described by Acronis.)

...and I have a PS/2 keyboard on my primary machine for that same reason.

Follow up: I was never able to get control of the mouse or keyboard with '12, so, just for giggles, I uninstalled '12 and installed the trial version of '14 and it works like a charm. Go figure. I guess I'll have to wait for '14 to go on sale again and get a copy for that machine.... :(

Silly question, can you make a disk off you trial copy of '14, and use that to access the backups you made/make with '12?

Hmmmm.... I don't know. I nuked the '12 backup files before I loaded the '14 trial, but something tells me no. I remember reading something on the Acronis site that if you upgraded the program (and I think they even meant an update to the current version, not a whole new one) the old backup copies wouldn't work.

AFIK, yes you can. Thanks to this thread, I just ugraded to TI 2014 for $29.95 or so. Well worth it! It has major changes including a Tri SSD tool. I used the media builder to create a ISO file, and then I made a new bootable thumbdrive and a new bootable CDR. This thread made all that happen. :)

It's a typo for Trim SSD tool. :)

And, yes. Once you have created the bootable Rescue media, you can use it here, there, and everywhere. TI image files should be backward compatible. They don't change the file stucture or format.
