Problems playing Jackie Chan VCDs...

Hi, I am a big fan of Jackie CHan's action movies. (Off topic) Anyway, I have tons of VCDs that I want to play on my computer. Windows Media Player 7/8 will not read the CDs correctly. It always prompts an error message, "Incorrect functions" Could anyone show me how to play VCD on my computer?

you will need vcd player to play vcd
i haven't heard or media player place vcd
usually dvd software play dvd too

Maybe a DVD player will play VCDs. VCD is encoded in special MPEG-1, right? If so, a soft DVD player that can play MPEG-2 must also read MPEG-1 as well. My thought...

Most software DVD players will play it. I use PowerDVD and it's fine with VCDs. VCD is simply mpeg-1 (converted to .dat I think)

no you do not need a vcd player to play vcd... You do not need any special kind of software at all, a simple CDROM drive and windows mediaplayer is all that you need...

You just do this...

Open the media player, go to archive, open file... click browse, change the file format from all mediatypes to all files, go to the folder on your cd named mpegav, double click on the .dat file that is there...

Either that or you just use explorer, go to the mpegav folder and double click on the .dat file, then you just choose mediaplayer to open the file and hit ok...

That will play the vcd just fine...

hmmm, it works with every VCD i have... are you sure the CD is ok, can you play regular mpeg files with media player, otherwise you are missing a driver for it...

There are free VCD players out there, some video cards even come with free VCD or DVD players... do a search fo it at Download.com

There are numerous free VCD players there...

usbnuts - have you tried to copy the VCD on to your hard drive? It's a pain, but sometimes running from a CD-ROM directly causes problems like yours...... The CD-ROM can't keep up with the data flow....
