I want to overclock my processor to 850. I have read several articles and I have a motherboard (Soyo 7VCA) that should make this pretty straightforward. My first attempt was to change the CPU/PCI frequency from the ?HW Default? value (which is, I assume 66/33) to 100/33. I restarted the PC and I can?t get it to even boot to the A drive or the (Award) BIOS screen. I plan to reset the CMOS using the jumper on the board. My question is ? what next?
The BIOS offers about 30 frequency settings starting at 66/33 and going up to ????. A few of the increments are:
66/33
68/34
75/37 etc. up to
100/33
103/34
105/35 etc. up to
133/33
135/33 etc. up to 166/41
The voltage settings are:
Normal ? current setting of 1.56V
+1.5%
+3%
+4.5% etc. up to
+10%
These equate to voltages ranging from 1.56V to 1.72 volts
After I reset the cmos and am able to get back to my BIOS screen, should I leave the frequency where I have it and begin increasing the voltage? One step at a time? If I get to a voltage, at which the machine boots, should I leave it there for a while to ensure it is stable or should I jack it up one more setting? I know temperature is a concern. The processor was running at about 102 deg. F. What temperature should concern me as being too high?
Thanks in advance for your advice. Ron
