Problems on HL2 with GF4 MX 440?

They say it will play at a decent frame rate with any card from GF2 up but you will have to play
on lower resolution with the eye candy turned down.
Also you will not get any of the DX8 or DX9 features with an MX card so all in all it may play alright
but it will look more like Halflife then Halflife 2. :frown:

Don't expect more than 640x480 and low / medium quality. If you can scrape together $153 and your motherboard has an AGP slot, you can get a Sapphire Radeon 9600 Pro from newegg.com that should let you play at 800x600 or 1024x768 with much higher image quality (assuming your CPU is decent).

It should be playable, but I don't know where playable and enjoyable (in terms of pretty graphics and fluid framerates) intersect for you. Just wait until HL2 comes out and try it.

FYI, AGP 8x is mainly a marketing term--it has almost nothing to do with your video card's performance, particularly a budget card like a GF4MX.

I had asked the same question. I also have a mx440 card. I was told that that I should get a9700 np or 9800 np. I do not have that that kind of money to spend, so I think a a 9600 pro or 9500 pro or maybe even a ti4200 should be ok. You can purchase a TI4200 for < $100. That s/b be ok to run HL2 .

it should run the game. Just wait till the game comes out, and if ur not happy, buy a new card then when its cheaper. The Radeon 9700 pro should be cheaper then cause of the 9900
