Problems jailbreaking my 3G 4.2.1 iphone

For starters, I want to jailbreak because i don't have Internet at my house and I want to use my phone as a modem to play xbox live.

In order to download any firmware or different jailbreaking software I have to go somewhere with free wifi, and currency I've tried greenpoisen and redsnow.

Oh, I'm also using windows.

The problem with redsnow is that once I get to "waiting to reboot" it stops working.

I have:
Ran redsnow as administrator
Changed the compatibility to windows xp as well ad 95.
Went to task manager - changed affinity to CPU 1, and priority to high

Can anyone help me? I am using 9.6b4 redsnow.

Should I try a different software?

Not to discourage a JB, but won't the latency be terrible for Xbox gaming?

I've only used PwnageTool on a Mac, so I can't troubleshoot Windows tools.

I use redsn0w for mac and pc. They are up to a higher version than what you are using. Check it out. Works great on my 3gs on ipad BB as well as my ip4 with the fucked BB

Cellular with have a minimum of 90-100ms latency, but more likely in the 200-400ms range.

High latency and online gaming do not mix.

I also forgot to mention that iOS 3.1.3 is a lot better choice than 4.2 on the iPhone 3G.

Maybe, but harder to find apps that work with it.

All I can say is: YOU may be screwing something up, I know I was when I first jailbroke myne so you better:

1) make sure you are using the latest version of Rednsn0w

2) make sure you are using the correct firmware file for your iphone

3) make sure you study thoroughly and follow correctly the jailbreak procedure.
