hey everyone, I just built my own computer and am having some problems installing windows XP on my system.
What I want to do: Partition my hard drive into 3 parts, put XP on one partition, linux on another, and MP3s on the third.
Whats happening: I tried to partition the HD and install XP, kept getting funny errors so I decided to remove the partitions and just try to get XP up and running. When I try to install XP I boot from the CD and everything goes fine until setup tries to copy files to my HD. Some of the files will copy ok, some will not and I will get an error message. The strange thing is that it is different files give me errors each time I do this. After getting errors for about 3 or 4 files I get a blue screen that says:
A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.
If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart yout computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:
Disable or uninstall any anti-virus, disk defragmentation or backup utilities. Check your hard drive configuration and check for any updated drivers. Run CHKDSK /F to check for hard drive corruption, and then restart your computer.
Technical information:
*** STOP: 0x00000024 (0x001902f8,0xf80d7db4, 0xf80d7ab4, 0x8082b5e5)
I have tried simply restarting the computer, I cannot run CHKDSK because I cannot get to a command prompt. If anyone has any idea how to fix this problem, or at least any insite on what could be the problem please let me know! I would be very greatful! Right now I'm not sure if this is a problem with my hardware, or my copy of XP (yes I am using a burned copy, but other people have used the same copy with no problems at all, so I don't know if its causing the problem or not.)
thank you!
